...That is If you follow the instructions, for those who damaged the seal not everything is lost; see below:  IMPORTANT NOTE; Starting March 2017, we changed to a marine epoxy sealer which makes the seal even more difficult to fail (We still recommend to wash by hand for longer durability). Update Jan 30, 2020: All HotSmarts sold starting this year are dishwasher-safe Update Jan 30, 2020: Likewise, All HotSmart Plates are preheatable to 150 F in a regular restaurant plate warmer or plate dispenser. They can even be preheated in your own oven but be careful not to exceed the 150 F   (The thermostats are not very accurate in stoves). IMPORTANT: When preheated in your microwave oven, the plates require only 1 to 1:15  minutes and stay hot for 1/2 hour and can be handled safely while hot with your bare hands.
